It was the first top-10 win of her 2023 season which culminated in her best result of the season thus far. But the Swiss southpaw has landed the toughest qualifier at the Miami Open in Karolina Muchova.

Karolina Muchova, for her part, didn’t meet the threshold as far as her ranking is concerned to get into the main draw at the Miami Open. But the rigors of qualifying proved so cushy for the Czech who swatted aside Heather Watson and Kristina Kucova, dropping a combined six games in both matches. Muchova will be looking to emulate her exploits from Indian Wells last week where she reached the quarterfinal and lost to eventual champion Elena Rybakina.

Jil Teichmann leads Karolina Muchova 1-0 in their head-to-head. That meeting took place in the Prague final in 2019 where Teichmann won in three sets to capture the first of her two career titles. Teichmann on her day, possesses a killer topspin forehand which can hurt some the best in the business. That forehand was a nightmarish shot for Bencic to deal with on the slow conditions in Indian Wells. But Muchova has a lot more variation and style to get through this match. Plus, she’s played a pair of qualifying matches to get her level and up to speed with these conditions at the Miami Open which has to be said are totally different.
