TennisSection previews the 2023 Argentina Open Aires as Carlos Alcaraz takes on Cameron Norrie in the final on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Carlos Alcaraz has picked up from where he left off as he looks to win his first title of the season in his first tournament of 2023. Will Cameron Norrie deny him the prize at the Argentina Open final?
Carlos Alcaraz motored to his first ATP final of the season in his first tournament back. The top seed defeated countryman Benabe Zapata Miralles 6-2 6-2 in an hour and 17 minutes. He broke his opponent’s serve five times and won over 50% return points. Alcaraz has only dropped one set which came in his opening match against Laslo Djere. But his passage has been more routine than his final opponent Cameron Norrie who is competing in his second final of the season at the Argentina Open.

Cameron Norrie, meanwhile, has been pushed to his absolute limits this week at the Argentina Open. He’s managed to see off some banana peels along the way, beating two Argentines in Facundo Diaz Acosta and Tomas Martin Etcheverry in three sets. But the semifinal win over Juan Pablo Varillas was his best display yet, saving two crucial break points in the final game of the match to win 7-6 6-4. Norrie will try to avoid a second final defeat in 2023 after losing to Richard Gasquet in Auckland.

Carlos Alcaraz leads Cameron Norrie 3-1 in their head-to-head. He won their only meeting on clay in Madrid last year in three sets. Norrie’s high topspin forehand makes him a very tricky opponent on the red clay, which is why we expect a very close contest despite what the odds suggest. The young Spaniard has grown into the event since his first match and his level and feel have generally gotten better. The British lefty cannot be counted out here. We like his chances of at least pushing Alcaraz the distance, but the top seed’s stamina and class should shine in what should be a gripping final at the Argentina Open.
