TennisSection previews the 2023 Rotterdam Open as Jannik Sinner takes on Tallon Griekspoor in the semifinal on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
Will Jannik Sinner get the win? Will Tallon Griekspoor pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have a local taking on the Italian prodigy. Who will triumph and move through to the finals at the 2023 Rotterdam Open?
Jannik Sinner took down Stan Wawrinka 6-1 6-3, continuing his excellent display of tennis from his win over Tsitsipas in the previous round. As he looks ahead to Tallon Griekspoor, he’ll be feeling extremely confident in his chances to progress to the final, as he is simply in a different tier than his opponent. Although Griekspoor may present some challenges with the crowd behind him, I expect Sinner to take care of this one as he marches towards a spot in the final of the 2023 Rotterdam Open.
Tallon Griekspoor took out fellow Dutchman Brouwer 6-4 6-4, a great win for him to face off against Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. If he wants a shot at this win, he’ll have to play some very aggressive tennis. Griekspoor simply does not have the artillery to take out a player like Sinner by rallying from the baseline. Let’s see if he can somehow bring his home crowd delight here at the 2023 Rotterdam Open.
Jannik Sinner and Tallon Griekspoor have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Sinner is the heavy favorite to advance to the final, so I don’t expect to see any lapses in this match after the level he has displayed so far. Let’s see if the young Italian can continue to blitz his way through the draw to set up a mouthwatering potential meeting in the finals against Daniil Medvedev to decide the champion of the 2023 Rotterdam Open.
