TennisSection previews the 2023 Australian Open as Cameron Norrie takes on Luca van Assche in the Round of 128 on Monday, January 16, 2023.
Will Cameron Norrie get the win? Will Luca van Assche pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the British No. 1 who looks in supreme form looking to kick off his campaign. Who will triumph and move through to the Round of 64 at the 2023 Australian Open?
Cameron Norrie is not someone to be underestimated in this year’s Australian Open, looking at the draw and at his level in the United Cup, Norrie making a semifinal run is not out of the question. As he takes on Luca van Assche, he knows he’ll have a pretty good time out on court adjusting to the conditions and looking to advance to the Round of 64 here at the 2023 Australian Open.
Luca van Assche has his work cut out for him here as he must somehow find a way to take down Cameron Norrie, one of the most dangerous players in the draw right now and someone who will not suffer an upset as he did last year. I expect him to get the win and put his incredible level from the last couple of weeks on display as he adapts to the conditions and looks to move on to the 2nd round of the 2023 Australian Open.
Cameron Norrie and Luca van Assche have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Norrie will be happy with his draw, as the opponents ahead of him are definitely players who he has the capability of defeating. Van Assche, the 18 year old from France will certainly throw everything he has at the Brit, but I ultimately have Norrie to get through this one with relative ease at the 2023 Australian Open.
