United Cup 2023: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Grigor Dimitrov Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2023 United Cup as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Grigor Dimitrov in the group stages on Thursday, December 29th, 2022.

Will Stefanos Tsitsipas get the win? Will Grigor Dimitrov pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have two one-handed backhands facing off in an exciting matchup. Who will triumph and claim victory for their country at the 2023 United Cup?

Stefanos Tsitsipas looks to get a good start to his 2023 season against Grigor Dimitrov, although it certainly isn’t an easy first match, the Greek will be the clear favorite for this match coming off his late 2022 form where he played some of his best tennis since the 2021 clay season. We know he likes the conditions down under, and I expect him to get a strong start off to the season with a good win over the Bulgarian here at the 2023 United Cup.

Grigor Dimitrov didn’t have the best 2022, and it may not get too much better as he must face the World No. 4 in Stefanos Tsitsipas in his first match of the season. If he wants to win this match, he’ll have to play super aggressively, trying to use the one main element of his game that he has over Tsitsipas: the backhand wing. If he can effectively slice and attack that side, he may be able to do some damage as he looks to pull off the upset at the 2023 United Cup.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Grigor Dimitrov have met 6 times before, with Stefanos Tsitsipas leading the head to head 5-1. It hasn’t proven to be the best matchup for the Bulgarian, and I don’t expect things to get much better for him. His one win came on a quick surface a couple of years back, and if he wants to replicate that result the courts in Australia are the place to do so, although I don’t expect him to have too much luck as Tsitsipas looks to get the win for Greece at the 2023 United Cup.
