ATP Finals 2022: Casper Ruud vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Nitto ATP Finals as Casper Ruud takes on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Group Stage on Sunday, November 13th, 2022.

The official curtain raiser of the 2022 Nitto ATP Finals will feature two players who have enjoyed vastly splendid seasons. Casper Ruud is the highest-ranked Norwegian in ATP history and will surely want to put a capstone to his year. However, he faces an incredibly tough match up against the in-form Felix Auger-Aliassime. Who will prevail?

Casper Ruud has qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals for the second year in a row. Last season, the Norwegian made it out of the group despite losing his first Round Robin match. He went on to reach the semifinals where he lost to Daniil Medvedev. Ruud is priced just above Rublev in the outright markets as one of the biggest underdogs this week. Despite winning 49 matches and reaching his first Grand Slam final at the French Open, his form has been rather lackluster in the build up to the season-ending finale. The 23-year-old has won three matches in his last five tournaments and will have his hands full against Canada’s powerhouse Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Felix Auger-Aliassime left it late to secure his qualification for a maiden Nitto ATP Finals appearance. The Canadian was not even in contention to make it to Turin, particularly when he suffered a shock second-round defeat to Jack Draper at the US Open. But the quick turnaround during the fall season has been mesmeric. He won a jaw dropping three successive tournaments in October and reached the last four in Bercy. That run was sufficient to thrust his name among the elite eight and will be a perennial danger on the indoor surface.

Casper Ruud leads Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-2 in their seriesacross all levels. Ruud has also won their last two meetings including their Montreal showdown in early August in straight sets. While Norwegian was unexpectedly dominant in Canada, he has struggled a fair bit in recent weeks. He is clearly not enjoying any sort of momentum or rhythm in his game. Auger-Aliassime, by contrast, is in the form of his life. It would take something out of the ordinary to stop him on his Nitto ATP Finals debut. Right now, Ruud does not have that killer instinct.
