Rotterdam Open 2023: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Jannik Sinner Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2023 Rotterdam Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Jannik Sinner in the second round on Thursday, February 16, 2023.

We have a blockbuster and we are only in the second round of the Rotterdam Open. It will be the Aussie Open fourth-round rematch as top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas squares off against Jannik Sinner. Who will prevail this time?

Stefanos Tsitsipas survived a first-set scare but came through a tricky opener against Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori in the first round of the Rotterdam Open. Ruusuvuori served for the first set but got tight and Tsitsipas broke back before taking control. He said in the aftermath of that win, he struggled to find his footwork in the early stages, but was delighted in the end he managed to get back into the contest before wrapping victory in straight sets. Next up for him is a rematch of the Australian Open classic a few weeks ago as he battles Jannik Sinner.

Jannik Sinner, for his part, booked his spot in the second round of the Rotterdam Open with a three-set win over Benjamin Bonzi. Sinner who is coming into this tournament fresh from capturing the Montpellier crown at the weekend played a great first set which he won in 40 minutes, breaking the Frenchman’s serve twice. But he gifted Bonzi a break in the second set at 1-2 down and he relinquished the set soon after. Sinner, however, quickly averted the danger and breezed through the third set 6-1.

Stefanos Tsitsipas leads Jannik Sinner 5-1 in their head-to-head. But this is the first time they are playing on indoor hard courts. While the conditions at the Rotterdam Open are different from those in Australia, Tsitsipas should still have the upper hand. The Greek hits at an impeccable length especially on his forehand, robbing Sinner of space to attack his shots within his comfort area, which is a couple of yards inside the baseline. Sinner needs to pummel the Tsitsipas’ backhand to keep rallies at neutral and have greater precision and time to hit winners at will. We expect another classic, and we are leaning towards Tsitsipas extending his near-perfect record in the head-to-head.
