TennisSection previews the 2022 Vienna Open as Jannik Sinner takes on Francisco Cerundolo in the Round of 16 on Thursday, October 27th, 2022.

Will Jannik Sinner get the win? Will Francisco Cerundolo pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have two next gen stars with massive games coming to a clash. Who will triumph and move through to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Vienna Open?
Jannik Sinner got a solid first round win, taking down Cristian Garin 6-2 6-3. It was a good star for the young Italian after a tough few weeks, having to retire from Sofia injured, he now heads into the latter stages of the indoor season hoping to somehow make it into the top 8. He has to start somewhere to meet that goal, but he’ll need to prove he’s still playing at a level in which he can brush aside a guy like Cerundolo and contend for the title here at the 2022 Vienna Open.

Francisco Cerundolo got a solid first win over a local wild card as he looks ahead to take on 6th seed Jannik Sinner. Sinner could be absolutely devastating on this kind of court, but he can be devastating on any court with his diverse game. The main key for Cerundolo is to try and force errors off Sinner’s forehand wing, but that may prove tough as Sinner will be dictating play from the baseline. Let’s see if the Argentine has what it takes to make this a match at the 2022 Vienna Open.
Jannik Sinner and Francisco Cerundolo have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Their first meeting came in Miami of this year, with Sinner retiring after going down 1-4, not the best indicator of determining their matchup here. Sinner recently took down Cerundolo a few weeks back in 3 sets at the Davis Cup. While he had to struggle quite a bit, it wasn’t really Sinner’s day, and he still came through. I expect Sinner to win in a more straightforward fashion this time around as he looks ahead to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Vienna Open.
