TennisSection previews the 2022 Astana Open as Stefanos Tsitisipas takes on Andrey Rublev in the semifinals on Saturday, October 8th, 2022.
Will Stefanos Tsitisipas get the win? Will Andrey Rublev pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have a young rivalry of flashy hitters coming to a clash once more. Who will triumph and move through to the final at the 2022 Astana Open?
Stefanos Tsitisipas played a real solid match against Hubert Hurkacz, despite his struggles in the last few months, and a tough opening set, he served well and was able to play aggressively when it counted. Andrey Rublev will be a really tough matchup for him, considering Rublev played arguably the best tennis of his career in his quarterfinal match, and with the way he’s smashing his backhand cross court, I can’t see Tsitsipas doing all too much here as Rublev looks to take out the Greek and move through to yet another final here at the 2022 Astana Open.
Andrey Rublev played an absolutely stunning match to book his place in the semifinals, perhaps the best match he’s ever played. While what rests on the other side of the draw may be scary, he should feel really confident going into this semifinal with Stefanos Tsitsipas. He has an excellent game to dismantle him, being able to crush the ball and really take advantage of Tsitsipas’ backhand wing. Let’s see if he can keep it up as he looks to move through to the last two of the 2022 Astana Open.
Stefanos Tsitisipas and Andrey Rublev have met nine times before, with Stefanos Tsitsipas leading the head to head 5-4.While Tsitsipas just edges out Rublev in their head to head, Rublev has the edge on hard courts with a 3-2 head to head. The conditions here really suit Rublev’s game and I expect him to be in top form for this one as he looks ahead to the final of the 2022 Astana Open.
