TennisSection previews the 2022 Astana Open as Novak Djokovic takes on Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals on Friday, October 7th, 2022.

Will Novak Djokovic get the win? Will Karen Khachanov pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where the 21 time grand slam champion takes on a player who’s not only in good form, but one who has given him a good run for his money in the past. Who will triumph and move through to the semifinals at the 2022 Astana Open?
Novak Djokovic has been playing some absolutely amazing tennis, excusing a loss in the Laver Cup which very well may have come from his wrist, he swept Tel Aviv and didn’t drop a set en route to the quarterfinals, with 3 6-1 sets and 1 6-3 set. As he comes up against Karen Khachanov, it will without a doubt be his toughest match yet, but he still comes in as the clear favorite, although I think Khachanov can still give him a tough time here at the 2022 Astana Open.

Karen Khachanov has gotten a pair of great wins, taking out Maxime Cressy and Marin Cilic, and he’s going to come into this one as a very dangerous player for Djokovic, and he knows it. He’s going to be looking to serve at his very best, and playing a lot of first strike tennis, not allowing Novak to move him around the court. While he might be in some good form and has some history with Djokovic, it’s still not likely to be enough to stop Djokovic en route to the semifinals of the 2022 Astana Open.
Novak Djokovic and Karen Khachanov have met seven times before, with Novak Djokovic leading the head to head 6-1. Although Khachanov won their most important clash in the finals of the Paris Masters back in 2018, Djokovic has thoroughly dismantled him since, dropping only one set in their last 5 meetings. Despite the situation, I expect Khachanov to give him a fight, but Djokovic will take this one convincingly in the end to book himself a place in the last four at the 2022 Astana Open.
