Paul simply didn’t have the physicality left in him after having to play 15 sets across 3 matches in the end, but Ruud was so solid, making just 2 unforced errors in the 5th to book a clash with Corentin Moutet in the Round of 16. I expect him to keep going and book his place in a first hard court major quarterfinal at the 2022 US Open.

Corentin Moutet has had a pretty lucky draw, but nonetheless has conquered the quick conditions here in New York to set up a clash with Casper Ruud. If he wants to win this one, he’ll really have to hope the 5th seed is off his game, otherwise there isn’t much hope for him. I really don’t like the matchup for him, and while neither player is particularly excellent on a quick hard court, Ruud outclasses him by a country mile. Let’s see what Moutet has to offer here at the 2022 US Open.

Casper Ruud and Corentin Moutet have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s an interesting matchup for sure, where the grinding nature of Ruud will clash with the more laid back style of the Frenchman. If Ruud wants to win, he’s going to have to keep the rallies lengthy, Moutet will obviously throw in a lot of drop shots, but Ruud is a very fast player and I expect him to be able to handle the pressure he’ll face to book his place in the last eight here at the 2022 US Open.
