Will Borna Coric extend his winning streak when he takes on Jenson Brooksby? This will be a true test of his title credentials, so will the Croatian star overcome the home favorite in the pick of the second-round matches at the US Open?

Borna Coric is seen as a major dark horse at the 2022 US Open. But if his first-round match is anything to go by, the Croat might not even make it far especially if his projected third-round meeting against Alcaraz comes to fruition. Coric was tested by the French qualifier Enzo Couacaud who fought back from two sets to love down and nearly completed the remarkable comeback. But Coric withstood the barrage of aces and winners coming off his opponent’s wand and secured a late break of serve in the fifth set to progress.

Jenson Brooksby, meanwhile, barely broke sweat as he demolished Dusan Lajovic 6-2 6-0 3-0, before the Serbian was forced to retire. Brooksby who had reached the fourth round of last year’s US Open has now picked up his 12th win on outdoor hard courts this season, with all of those coming on home turf. That could galvanize him to produce another big performance against an in-form Borna Coric on Thursday.

Borna Coric and Jenson Brooksby have not played each other on the ATP Tour. Thursday’s match at the US Open will be their first official meeting. We have mentioned Coric’s prospects and how brilliant he has been in the past week in Cincinnati, where he sensationally lifted his first Masters 1000 title. Surprisingly, he enters this match against Brooksby a slight underdog. I think we shouldn’t be reading too much into the match against Couacaud whom it has to be noted is no slouch on hard courts especially with that humongous first serve. We are backing the Croat to come out on top here and set up a potential third-round blockbuster against Carlos Alcaraz.
