TennisSection previews the 2022 Montreal Open as Taylor Fritz takes on Dan Evans in the Round of 16 on Thursday, August 11th, 2022.
Will Taylor Fritz get the win? Will Dan Evans pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have a rematch of their meetup just last week. Who will triumph and move on to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Montreal Open?
Taylor Fritz displayed his mental toughness out there against Tiafoe, coming back down from 0-4 in the 3rd set to take it and book himself a place in the last 16 against Dan Evans in what would be sweet revenge after what happened last week. He succumbed to the heat in Washington, however, now they’re in Montreal, Fritz is one of the form players on the ATP Tour right now and with his past record against Evans, I expect him to put on a show here at the 2022 Montreal Open.
Dan Evans got a big win over 5th seed Andrey Rublev, who granted, isn’t quite in form, is still a big win nonetheless. As he faces Taylor Fritz once again, he’ll be hoping to disrupt the game of the American and maybe hope that he can physically outlast him once more. Fritz’s game is huge, though. When he’s on, he’s almost unstoppable and I don’t see Evans having the weapons to combat that as the two clash for a spot in the last eight at the 2022 Montreal Open.
Taylor Fritz and Dan Evans have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Their first meeting came in Rome on the clay, with Fritz winning rather easily on an adverse surface. Their last meeting came just last week in Washington, with Evans clutching up with some matchpoint saves before Fritz retired in the 3rd with physical issues. I expect him to conquer those demons in this one, but it’s gonna be a battle as he looks to move on to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Montreal Open.
