Citi Open 2022: Andrey Rublev vs. Yoshihito Nishioka Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Citi Open as Andrey Rublev takes on Yoshihito Nishioka in the semifinals on Saturday, August 6th, 2022.

Will Andrey Rublev get the win? Will Yoshihito Nishioka pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have a tennis elite taking on a player with a unique skill set. Who will triumph and move on to the final at the 2022 Citi Open?

Andrey Rublev had a tough day, having to play Cressy and Wolf, but dispatched them both without dropping a set. Cressy was a bit of a tougher match, but he was incredibly clutch with his serve in the 2nd set tiebreaker. As for Wolf, he played very aggressively, hitting hardly any unforced errors and continuing to serve out of this world. I only expect more of the same as he looks to advance to the final of the 2022 Citi Open.

Yoshihito Nishioka got a great win, taking out Dan Evans in 3 dramatic sets, 7-5 in the 3rd. As he comes up against top seed Andrey Rublev, it’ll be by far his toughest challenge yet, and it’s highly unlikely he’ll be able to do the job. Rublev is playing some of the best tennis of his season, dispatching of his opponents quite easily, especially in his quarterfinal, ripping winner after winner, he looks quite invincible from the baseline, especially for quite a defensive player such as Nishioka as the two face off for a spot in the final at the 2022 Citi Open.

Andrey Rublev and Yoshihito Nishioka have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Their first meeting came in 2019, far before Rublev became the top 10 player he is today. In 2021 however, Rublev finished off Nishioka quite easily, as expected. I expect him to do more or less the same as he looks to advance to the final round of the 2022 Citi Open where he looks to claim his 4th title of the season.
