Citi Open 2022: Andrey Rublev vs. Maxime Cressy Tennis Pick and Prediction

Andrey Rublev got an excellent first win over Jack Draper, taking him out quite easily 6-4 6-2. He has a much tougher challenge ahead though as he faces Maxime Cressy, a player not just in good form but potentially a tough matchup for the top seed. In order to win this one, he’s going to have to be on top of his service games, but more importantly, he will have to 100% dominate the baseline exchanges, and while he is obviously the far superior player from the line, he is known to be shaky from time to time. Let’s see if he can stay stable and take down the American to move on to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Citi Open.

Maxime Cressy took down Jack Sock in a very big win, bagelling him in the 3rd, getting revenge for Wimbledon. He won in Newport, and he’s continuing the streak into the Round of 16 where he will face No. 1 seed Andrey Rublev. It’s a brutal challenge and it would be a win which would certainly hurl him up the radar. He can win, but he’ll have to play his very best tennis if he hopes to pull off the upset here at the 2022 Citi Open.

Andrey Rublev and Maxime Cressy have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Rublev isn’t the best returner, which you certainly need against Cressy. Although, his defense is quite underrated and I don’t see him losing many exchanges from the baseline to Cressy, really allowing him to dictate play in the grand scheme of things. Let’s see if he can keep it up into the last eight at the 2022 Citi Open.
