TennisSection previews the 2022 Citi Open as Taylor Fritz takes on Dan Evans in the Round of 16 on Thursday, August 4th, 2022.

Will Taylor Fritz get the win? Will Dan Evans pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where the top American faces a tough challenge. Who will triumph and move on to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Citi Open?
Taylor Fritz got a great win over Alexei Popyrin, taking him down 6-4 6-3 to make his debut here in Washington. As he looks ahead to Dan Evans, he knows that it could be dangerous, but I think his game matches up really well with Evans, allowing him to hit through the nuances of the Brit’s game. Let’s see what the No. 1 American has to offer as he looks to march on here at the 2022 Citi Open.

Dan Evans took down his compatriot in Kyle Edmund to set up a much tougher meeting coming up against Taylor Fritz. The American has been in top form lately, winning 9 of his last 10 matches, only losing to Rafael Nadal in 5 sets in that memorable quarter final clash at the Lawn England Club. If Evans wants to win, he’s going to have to put on the performance of a lifetime, otherwise, I don’t see any other outcome for this match as the two clash for a spot in the last eight at the 2022 Citi Open.
Taylor Fritz and Dan Evans have met once before, with Taylor Fritz leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came in Rome last season, with Fritz winning very easily, taking it 6-3 6-2. I expect a similar trend in this one, with Evans not really displaying top form lately and Fritz’s game being very dangerous for someone like him. Let’s see if the American will continue to fly high at the 2022 Citi Open.
