Murray vs Tsitsipas Prediction
We’ve got the projected second-round blockbuster at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships as two-time champion Andy Murray faces Stefanos Tsitsipas. Wimbledon will stand still for the meeting of home crowd favorite Murray and fifth seed Tsitsipas. Both players took a different route to get here. Murray swatted aside fellow Briton Ryan Peniston in his opening match, being watched by tennis icon Roger Federer in the stands. And Murray was in full flight as he completed a 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 win in next to no time.
Tsitsipas, meanwhile, survived an absolute dogfight against 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem. Tsitsipas won in five sets, in a match that stretched into two days due to rain. The Greek hammered 69 winners to 32 unforced errors. Tsitsipas’ serve was key (won 83% first-serve points) as was his world-class net presence (72% points won). It was a much-needed win after a subpar grass-court swing in the lead-up to Wimbledon.
Tsitsipas has the utmost respect for Murray despite his shenanigans in their clash at the US Open a couple of years ago, and he expects to be in a cage fight with no room to escape. Murray will have the full support of the British crowd and he’s been candid and optimistic since his first presser, saying he likes his chances of doing well in the tournament. We reckon he’s got the edge and he’ll have the perfect balance of defense and attack to eke out another monstrous win.
