Third seed Alexander Bublik reached the title match at the Newport Open for the second time in his career after romping to victory in his semifinal. The Kazakh was simply too good for Australia’s Jason Kubler after outplaying him in straight sets. Bublik won 6-3 6-2, hammering 15 aces and not facing a single break point in the process. He will be looking to close out a very decent grass court season by winning his second ATP title this year to add to his Montpellier crown he won earlier in the season. Can he overcome the towering Maxime Cressy?

Maxime Cressy, for his part, won a titanic tussle against fellow American John Isner 6-2 4-6 6-3, bringing Isner’s 10-match winning streak at the Newport Open to a juddering halt. Cressyhas been relentless in his pursuit for his first ATP title this year and reached his third final of the season after taking down three compatriots and two former champions. His serve and volley style was once again at the forefront of everything good he did during the week and it was only fitting he clinched the match against Isner in that fashion. Alexander Bublik and Maxime Cressy have not played each other on the ATP Tour. Sunday’s final at the Newport Open will be their first official meeting.
