He has a good game for the clay, while not necessarily hitting super big, he can hit heavy and stay in the long rallies, allowing him to dictate from the back of the court. No player is to be underestimated, but with the sheer lack of matches Brouwer has played and the large contrast in levels, I expect Wolf to carry on to the quarterfinals at the Houston Open 2022.
Gijs Brouwer took out an excellent opponent today, granted he is no longer at the level he once was. Lopez was a great clay courter in his own right, but nowadays it would be too brutal of a surface and game to take on for him. J.J. Wolf on the other hand is playing some great tennis, he’ll have plenty of confidence from his last win, so with an inexperienced player like Brouwer taking on a much more in form and central ATP player, I expect him to fall here at the Houston Open 2022.
J.J. Wolf and Gijs Brouwer have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. They met once in a challenger event, but no official ATP meetings. Surprise surprise, Wolf took the win. I expect him to do it once more here, and I don’t think he’ll have much trouble. There simply aren’t very many feasible ways in which an upset would occur in this case, so I expect Wolf to march on to the final eight at the Houston Open 2022.
