Will Nick Kyrgios continue to rally on his beloved clay? Will Tommy Paul take down the extremely dangerous competitor ahead of him? This will be a fascinating one, where we have one of the most talented players in tennis history taking on a home-town hero in solid form. Who will triumph and move on to the quarterfinals at the Houston Open 2022?
Nick Kyrgios got a tough but hard-fought win over McDonald, showing he still knows how to maneuver the clay. Paul, much like McDonald, will like a much quicker court. Kyrgios has had some impressive results on clay in the past, and I expect him to carry on his level from his previous match and take down Paul. It will of course be hard, and we never know for sure with Nick, but I expect him to send Paul home and book a spot in the last eight at the Houston Open 2022.
Tommy Paul has had some impressive results lately, but often fails to back them up. He doesn’t have the biggest game, and that won’t really help him on the clay, he is a great mover, but I doubt he has the firepower to compete with Nick, obviously the court is slow, and with Nicks big hitting, he’ll take advantage of the balls that sit up and dictate from around the court. It won’t be easy, but that’s the result I expect for the first spot of the quarterfinals to be booked at the Houston Open 2022.
Nick Kyrgios and Tommy Paul have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. I don’t really think Paul has what it takes to outplay a player like Kyrgios. Kyrgios hits massive, obviously his serve is infamous but he can rip balls from the back of the court with ease. Paul is a scrambler, and he can produce some good forehands on his day, but it won’t help him much on the slow clay courts in his home country as Kyrgios aims to take the win and progress at the Houston Open 2022.
