A rather unexpected Quarter-Final is upon us here at Wimbledon 2022 as ninth seeded Cameron Norrie meets the unseeded David Goffin. Both men have looked good this week and fully deserve to be here, but it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Can Cam Norrie continue to fly the British flag high and move into the Semis? Or will it be the veteran Belgian Goffin causing the upset?
Cameron Norrie has the weight of the nation on his shoulders here at Wimbledon 2022, as the British #1 was given a favorable draw, expected to make it deep into the tournament. So far he has lived up to expectations, reaching the Quarter-Finals rather comfortably. The only match that wasn’t straightforward was when he faced Jaume Munar, who shockingly had a two sets to one lead before Norrie recovered to win in five. He dominated the in-form Tommy Paul in straight sets in the Round of 16 and in this type of form will be favored to defeat David Goffin to reach his first ever Grand Slam Semi-Final.
David Goffin is an unseeded former top 10 player that has had a tough past few years. The Belgian has looked great this week at Wimbledon 2022, defeating two seeded players in Sebastian Baez and Frances Tiafoe to reach this stage of the competition. He has no major weapons which can be a liability on this surface but he also has no weaknesses, and his service return is among the world’s best. His five set win over Frances Tiafoe in the Round of 16 was very impressive, a physical battle that seemed to favor the American. In this form Goffin is expected to pose a major threat to Cameron Norrie, especially given his experience and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain it.
This will be the second meeting between the two players with Cameron Norrie leading the head to head 1-0. It will be their first meeting on grass, and they both have had some strong results on the surface over their careers, with Norrie’s game perhaps suiting it a bit better. David Goffin is very experienced, but I have serious doubts about his fitness levels, and his ability to get through yet another grueling match. Cameron Norrie will have the entire crowd behind him, and I expect them to will him to victory here. Norrie to win in a very tight match, moving onto the Semi-Finals here at Wimbledon 2022.
