TennisSection previews Wimbledon 2022 as Nick Kyrgios takes on Brandon Nakashima in the fourth round on Monday, July 4th, 2022.
Will Brandon Nakashima come out here and give American tennis something to cheer about as he aims to make it one step further in his best Grand Slam result at Wimbledon? Will Nick Kyrgios continue to shine here at Wimbledon as he aims to set up a quarter-final here where he knows he can play his best tennis? Both players are very solid on their day, but only one will make their way to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. Who will it be?
Brandon Nakashima has played very well here at Wimbledon, having beaten the likes of Denis Shapovalov. However, he has also had a very lucky draw as he has not had to face any real tough or in form opposition as Shapovalov is in the worst form of his life, and all other players have been very low ranked. Nakashima will view this both as a blessing and a curse, because he might not be at the level and experience he might need to be successful at Wimbledon. However, he will also see this as an opportunity like no other, as if he is playing with the houses money. Brandon Nakashima will be very happy and if he is to win here, he needs to give it his all at all times against Nick Kyrgios.
Nick Kyrgios came through an incredibly dramatic third round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, beating him in 4 sets. From start to finish, there was animosity between both players in that match, but things took a turn for the worse towards the end of the second set. Nick Kyrgios played superbly by going for everything and showing us why on grass he is incredibly tough to beat. However, Tsitsipas was also not at his best because he was more focused on what Nick was doing off the court and in between points than on his tennis. The match was definitely a circus, and hopefully we don’t have another situation like that one as Nick now meets Brandon Nakashima at Wimbledon.
Nick Kyrgios and Brandon Nakashima have never met before, with this being their first career encounter. Although Brandon Nakashima will come into this match knowing he has played well over the last week, and feel like he has nothing to lose, he is still nowhere near the level required to win this match. Nick as he said yesterday, is cut from a different cloth, and unless you are one of the best players in the world, you will find it extremely tough to beat him, especially on the grass courts of Wimbledon. I expect an easy match for Nick where he dominates from start to finish and shows Nakashima variety in shots which he has never seen before.
