TennisSection previews Wimbledon 2022 as Alex de Minaur takes on Cristian Garin in the fourth round on Monday, July 4th, 2022.
Will Cristian Garin continue to shock us on the grass courts of Wimbledon as he aims to make his way to his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final? Will Alex de Minaur show us why he is so hard to beat in fast and low bouncing conditions? Both players are young and determined to give it their best here for what can be considered a chance of a lifetime to make it to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. However, only one will. Who will it be?
Cristian Garin has been very happy over the last week, both with the fact that his draw has not been so hard so far, but also with the fact that he actually got himself into the fourth round as it can be hard to do so even when you think it can be easy. No one expected Garin to go far at Wimbledon because he is much more of a clay court player, with grass being his worst surface. However, he has been proving us wrong so far, and he looks determined to continue his run going. Can the Chilean achieve an amazing feat by making the Wimbledon quarter-finals? He will have to play at his absolute peak as he now meets Alex de Minaur.
Alex de Minaur has been in good form over the last week at Wimbledon, showing us why he is one of the most versatile players out there. Alex is always tough to beat because he seemingly returns absolutely everything and is extremely hard to break down. With his performances so far, Alex de Minaur will know he has a strong chance to go far here, but he will not come out here taking this match too lightly, especially as Cristian Garin can be tough to beat on his day. If Alex is playing at his best, he will surely be aiming to set up a quarter-final encounter at Wimbledon against his fellow Australian, Nick Kyrgios.
Alex de Minaur and Cristian Garin have met 3 times before, with Alex de Minaur leading the head to head 3-0. They met quite recently at Eastbourne on grass, and I expect for this match to be a very similar result, straight sets for Alex de Minaur. Cristian is a great player on his day and can definitely keep things close. However, he has had it very easy at Wimbledon so far, and he will now that the level of opposition is only going to increase from now on. I expect Alex to be prepared and ready to not waste any time as he makes his way to the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
