Wimbledon 2022: Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jannik Sinner Tennis Prediction and Pick

TennisSection previews Wimbledon 2022 as Carlos Alcaraz takes on Jannik Sinner in the fourth round on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022.

Will Jannik Sinner show us that he is the real deal and just as good as Carlos Alcaraz as one of the best young prospects for the future of tennis? Will Carlos Alcaraz come out here and conitnue to dominate like he did in his last couple of matches here at Wimbledon? Both players know each other quite well and are determined to keep this a close rivalry, but only one will make their entrance into the second week at Wimbledon as they aim to get into the quarter finals. Who will it be?

Jannik Sinner has been in great form this week at Wimbledon, beating the likes of Stan Wawrinka, Mikael Ymer, and John Isner. Sinner loves these grass conditions because they play similar to an indoor hard court, low bounce of the ball, fast, and flat. Sinner is an amazing talent with the ability to hit any grounstroke consistently, which makes us think of him as a young Novak Djokovic. Coming into Wimbledon this year, his expectations were not set so high as he did not play in any warm up events due to recovering from a knee injury. However, the young Italian has proven us all wrong and he determined to continue his run this year as he knows he definitely has a chance to play a big match-up against Novak Djokovic if he wins this one against Carlos Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz has been unstoppable since he won his first round match, the only time he looked a bit frail, and he has shown us why he is the hottest young talent in men’s tennis at the moment. Carlos was doubted before the start of the tournament due to his inexperience on grass, but he has thrown those doubters out of the window with his incredible shot making, ability to take the ball early, and just the power he hits with which shocks his opponents. Alcaraz will know that in this form, he can definitely beat Novak Djokovic, and he will not want to limit himself to being just a quarter-finalist. But to get to that quarter-final in the first place, he needs to be on his A-game as he meets Jannik Sinner.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have met 1 time before, with Carlos Alcaraz having won that encounter. Although Jannik is a great player, and perhaps the more accustomed to grass court conditions, the fact that their last meeting was on an indoor hard court, which is preferrable for Sinner, and Carlos won, tells me everything I need to know. Sinner is an amazing talent, definitely a future World No.1 and Grand Slam champion, but Carlos is levels above that. Carlos adapts so much faster, has proven himself already against the big guys in the world of tennis, and he knows he has a very good shot to perhaps even lift the trophy this year at Wimbledon. I do expect some tight moments in the match here, but Carlos should see this one through and set up an encounter against Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.
