Halle Open 2022: Hubert Hurkacz vs. Nick Kyrgios Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Halle Open as Hubert Hurkacz takes on Nick Kyrgios in the semifinals on Saturday, June 18th, 2022.

Will Hubert Hurkacz get the win? Will Nick Kyrgios pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have two of the best grass courters and most entertaining players clashing for a spot in the final round. Who will triumph and move on to the final at the 2022 Halle Open?

Hubert Hurkacz got an excellent win over Felix Auger-Aliassime, taking him out in 2 tiebreakers, demonstrating his prowess on the grass. Hurkacz really knows what he’s doing on the surface, and frankly has the perfect game for it. He has an incredible serve, very good aggressive, first-strike instinct with massive ground strokes, as well as a very underrated set of volleys and a general good instinct up at net. His opponent in Nick Kyrgios though will be the ultimate test to his composure, will he be able to handle some of his own medicine as the two face off for a place in the final at the 2022 Halle Open.

Nick Kyrgios displayed a masterclass against PCB, hitting 39 winners to just FOUR unforced errors. While Hubert Hurkacz is a whole other monster he will face to face, Kyrgios will head into this one with some confidence. I think he has what it takes to get Hurkacz, purely because of his serve/return dynamic, it’s better. Hurkacz isn’t the best returner, and I doubt he’ll be able to break Nick, but Kyrgios is able to deal with big servers pretty well, especially off his backhand wing, I expect him to dig himself into some of the service games of Hurkacz and ultimately get through to his very first grass court final at the 2022 Halle Open.

Hubert Hurkacz and Nick Kyrgios have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s a very exciting matchup, but I don’t love the defense of Hurkacz, I think he really wants to be able to stay on his front foot, while Kyrgios is ready to dig himself out of some tough situations. Hurkacz is certainly the favorite, and if he is able to serve so well that he can play aggressively as he likes, he will win the match, but ultimately, I expect Kyrgios to be able to pull off the upset and continue his incredible run all the way to the final match at the 2022 Halle Open.
