Sebastian Korda got the win over John Millman, but not without its troubles. He took the first set easily, but the next two sets were close fights. Korda really should be dominating that match, as well as many others he’s lost lately. He had a pretty good start to the season, but after taking out Alcaraz in Monte-Carlo, he’s had some pretty disappointing results. In order to take down Richard Gasquet, he’s really gonna have to step it up here at the 2022 French Open.
Richard Gasquet got a pretty comfortable win after a solid week in Geneva last week. Gasquet can still show some beautiful tennis, and he’ll be excited to show some more of it at home in Roland Garros. Sebastian Korda won’t be easy, but most certainly a doable match. Gasquet will have the crowd behind him along with his clay court knowledge and ability to grind it out and play aggressively. Sebastian Korda and Richard Gasquet have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. While I do expect this match to be a contested one, it’s very possible that it could be a blowout from either end, with both players experiencing random lapses in their matches lately. I do expect Gasquet to be the more consistent one though, and with the crowd sure to rally behind him, I expect him to be able to get the win in a tight affair to move through to the Round of 32 at the 2022 French Open.
