Lloyd Harris is filled with confidence at the moment, coming off of a victory last week over Stan Wawrinka, and now coming through the qualifying here in Dubai, and now beating Christopher O’Connell in the first round. Harris won his first round match in 3 sets (5)6-7/6-4/6-1. Harris is a big swinger and he can outpower many opponents when he is on top of his game. Lloyd definitely has a bright future ahead of him, and if he continues to improve on his current form throughout 2021, he will definitely enter the Top 50 very soon. Lloyd Harris now meets the World No.4 and No.1 seed here in Dubai in Dominic Thiem. Will Harris be able to cause the upset to not only book himself into the third round here in Dubai, but also achieve the biggest victory of his career?
Dominic Thiem always takes some time to get to his highest level, especially after a few weeks off. We saw just that last week at the 2021 Qatar Open, where Thiem lost in the Quarter-Finals against Roberto Bautista Agut. Now that we are in a bigger tournament here in Dubai, I believe that Dominic Thiem will be ready to give it his all and definitely give it a shot for the title. Dominic Thiem always needs some matches to warm up, and now that he’s gone through these matches, he will be ready to go. Dominic Thiem will be happy with his side of the draw as he will not really meet anyone that will be the favourite in their encounter until the Final. How far can the World No.4 go here in Dubai this week? Will he falter to Lloyd Harris in the second round?
Dominic Thiem and Lloyd Harris have never met before, and this is going to be their first encounter. Unfortunately for the World No.81 and big swinging Lloyd Harris, I just do not see any other result here than a Dominic Thiem victory. Dominic Thiem is warmed up from his matches last week in Qatar, and he is ready to go. Harris, although on top of his game, still has not evolved his skillset to counterattack against a guy as solid as Dominic Thiem. Thiem is one of the best in the game, and he has so much experience at a high level. Harris is trying to make his way, somewhat later than other players have, and he will struggle in this encounter with Thiem’s power, speed, and ability to mix the rallies up.
