Jannik Sinner took down the Italian veteran in Fabio Fognini in 3 sets in a brilliant encounter to book a spot in a very winnable meeting coming up against Filip Krajinovic. Sinner has a good draw here in Rome, and the Italian hope will be soaring as he aims to reach the last eight. Sinner loves the conditions here, having plenty of time to set up his blistering groundstrokes and his combination of grinding and power hitting from the back of the court. Filip Krajinovic took down Andrey Rublev, while it was a great performance, we cannot ignore the rather subpar performance from Rublev, allowing Krajinovic to dictate the match. I don’t think he’ll have much of a chance coming up against Sinner. Sinner can give away a match if he’s not careful with his risky game style as we saw in Madrid, however, in Rome the conditions suit him perfectly. And of course with the crowd at his side, I expect him to march on at the 2022 Rome Masters.
Jannik Sinner and Filip Krajinovic have met once before, with Jannik Sinner leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came at the 2021 Sofia Open, with Sinner winning relatively easily. That was an indoor hard court, which is probably one of the preferred surfaces of Krajinovic, and now we move to the perfect environment for Sinner. Let’s see what the young Italian can do at the 2022 Rome Masters.
