Rome Open 2022: Andrey Rublev vs. Filip Krajinovic Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Rome Open as Andrey Rublev takes on Filip Krajinovic in the second round on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022.

With one title on clay this season, Andrey Rublev will be a formidable challenger once the French Open starts later this month. But before the Russian embarks on his Roland Garrosjourney, there are still a few rounds to play for in the build up to the clay slam. Will Rublev withstand the challenge of FilipKrajinovic in the second round of the Rome Open?

Andrey Rublev is a solid 7-2 on clay heading to the Rome Open. The only blots remain his defeat to Sinner in Monte-Carlo and most recently to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Madrid. Rublev has already bagged a clay-court title in Belgrade when he demolished Novak Djokovic 6-2 6-7 6-0. And the Russian’s uncontrollable power will be a true test for Filip Krajinovic on Tuesday. The world No. 7 is a former quarterfinalist at this event and will be keen to follow up his recent results in the Italy’s capital.

Filip Krajinovic, for his part, was in action in the first round. The Serbian withstood a barrage of aces from Frances Tiafoe’sracket before giving the American the runaround with his silky footwork and a handful of passing shots. Krajinovic proved a touch too good in the decisive moments against the Estorilfinalist, winning 7-6 7-6. Krajinovic is now 9-9 for the season having scored just his second win on the dirt in 2022.

Andrey Rublev and Filip Krajinovic are currently locked at two wins apiece. However, the pair have not clashed on the ATP Tour since 2020, with Rublev emerging victorious in their last collision in Dubai. The Russian is in better form and naturally comes in as the favorite. This is possibly the best tennis that Rublev has played on the dirt for quite some time and I guess the question we should ask ourselves is whether he can sustain this level for one more month. Right now, I’d say yes.
