Monte-Carlo Masters 2022: Marton Fucsovics vs. Lloyd Harris Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters as Marton Fucsovics takes on Lloyd Harris in the first round on Sunday, April 10th, 2022.

Neither Marton Fucsovics nor Lloyd Harris has enjoyed a productive run so far in 2022. And both players will be playing on European clay for the first time this season. Who will turn the tide when they clash in the first round of the Monte-Carlo Masters?

Marton Fucsovics fell in the second round stage of the Miami Masters at his last tournament to the eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. At the time, none of us even remotely entertained the idea of the young Spaniard going all the way. And as fate would have it, Fucsovics became one of the victims that was wiped away so routinely by the talented World No. 11 en route to the his first Masters title. The Hungarian’s attention turn to the European clay-court swing where he is seeking to record double-digit wins for the year. Fucsovics will be playing in his fourth main draw at the Monte-Carlo Masters, but has only won one match in his last three trips combined.

Lloyd Harris will enter Sunday’s match at the Monte-Carlo Masters as the higher-ranked player. But aside from his respectable fourth-round showing in Miami, 2022 has been nothing short of disastrous for Harris, both in terms of results of performances. He opened the year with five straight defeats and winning just a pair of two sets in that span. Things took a turn in March when he posted his first ATP Tour win of 2022 in Indian Wells. Harris is set to make his Monte-Carlo Masters debut.

Marton Fucsovics and Lloyd Harris have played four times, with head-to-head tied at 2-2. But it is pertinent to note that none of their previous four meetings have taken place on clay. So the onus to go and clinch victory rests on the Hungarian’s racket. Surface preference should a major factor. Fucsovics will clearly relish playing the big-serving Harris on the dirt. The Hungarian world No. 57 might lack overwhelming power, but he tends to generate sufficient pace to trouble his opponents. And the slow courts at the Monte-Carlo Masters should make the conditions a little bit uncomfortable for the power-hitting Harris.
