Cameron Norrie got a very interesting win over Basilashvili in a rematch of their final last year, where the scenario was almost the same. He put on a great display of tennis though, playing perfect tennis for a slow court like here. He loves the conditions, but so does home favorite Jenson Brooksby. Brooksby pulled off a big win and he will not go away lightly, I think Norrie is too consistent and has more variety and certain advantages over Brooksby’s playstyle that will propel him to victory such as his heavy forehand making it hard for Brooksby to just push the ball back deep into the court, Norrie will definitely be cutting off the angles as he loves to do, being the more or less patient aggressor. Let’s see if the defending champion can keep it going at Indian Wells 2022.
Jenson Brooksby pulled off his first top-10 win today taking down Stefanos Tsitsipas after being dominated in the first set. He served quite well, and simply rallied with Tsitsipas from the back of the court where Tsitsipas could not maintain his aggression, Norrie is no aggressive player, but he will break your game down over time eventually taking the point off a short ball being a great closer. Brooksby loves to wait for errors, and he definitely is a quirky player possessing an excellent disguise on the slice and drop shot, but Norrie’s spin and variety is too good for that. Brooksby won’t get much help from Norrie though as Norrie is very consistent and will not be making nearly as many errors as previous opponents. Let’s see if the American can stay in this one and challenge the champion here at Indian Wells 2022.
Cameron Norrie and Jenson Brooksby have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It really is a fascinating matchup, but no matter what I see Norrie being the guy on top. Neither player is a big server or returner, so the majority of the gameplay will be from the baseline. I think Norrie will just be slowly moving into the court and there’s not much Brooksby can do about it since he has no real weapons to attack his opponents, meanwhile Norrie is a great repellent for Brooksby as he will be consistent in longer points whilst possessing counters for some of the slices and lobs Brooksby comes up with. This should be a fun one as Norrie aims to back up his results last year at Indian Wells 2022.
