Indian Wells 2022: Nick Kyrgios vs. Jannik Sinner Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the Indian Wells 2022 as Nick Kyrgios takes on Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022.

Will Jannik Sinner get the win? Will Nick Kyrgios pull off the upset? This will be a very fascinating one, where the infamous Aussie aims to take down his 2nd top 10 opponent in a row as Sinner aims to take down a very dangerous opponent. Who will triumph to move through to the quarterfinals at Indian Wells 2022?

Nick Kyrgios got an extremely impressive win against Casper Ruud, who by all accounts should have been a very tough opponent and who should have likely defeated Nick, and while Ruud didn’t play his best, Kyrgios really just outplayed him. Kyrgios absolutely bombed the serve and was virtually unbreakable, not forgoing a single break point chance to Ruud, while also ripping the ball from the back of the court beautifully, hardly missing balls. His next opponent is Jannik Sinner, who I think on paper isn’t as hard as Ruud for him, but he will present his own challenges and will make the match tougher for Kyrgios as he aims to continue his incredible run into the last eight at Indian Wells 2022.

Jannik Sinner got a tough win in 3 sets in a match where you really feel as if he should have won easier. He in fact won less points in the match, and despite serving at a remarkable 96%, only won 61% of first serve points. Sinner is one of those guys who can have a really bad serving day, and if he does that against Kyrgios, he will be bullied. Obviously that’s a great number, but there’s no guarantee it’ll hold up. Sinner also isn’t really too consistent from the back of the court, and while he can bash the ball, I don’t think he can win longer exchanges with Nick which are almost guaranteed on a slower court as the young Italian will look for ways to dispatch his very dangerous opponent at Indian Wells 2022.

Nick Kyrgios and Jannik Sinner have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It is a good matchup to break down, Kyrgios obviously has one of the best serves in the world, and while Jannik can bash serves he can get on top of, he cannot do that against Kyrgios, I think Kyrgios will have a very nice time on serve, and on return, we don’t really know what to expect from Sinner, especially considering his incredible inconsistency on the ground in his Round of 32 match. I just don’t see Sinner being able to at all defend the very aggressive nature of Kyrgios as the on-fire Aussie aims to book his spot in the quarterfinals at Indian Wells 2022.
