Indian Wells 2022: Jannik Sinner vs. Laslo Djere Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Indian Wells as Jannik Sinner takes on Laslo Djere in the second round on Saturday, March 12th, 2022.

With an 11-2 record for the year, Jannik Sinner is a strong contender to reach the latter stages of the 2022 Indian Wells tournament. A routine win is expected when he lines up to take on the harmless World No. 52 Laslo Djere.

Jannik Sinner has made a strong start to 2022, winning 11 matches and solidifying his presence inside the world’s top 10. Last season, Sinner had already won an ATP title by this stage, but judging by numbers alone, this has actually been an even better start despite his failure to add to his trophy cabinet. The 20-year-old Italian remains a lethal competitor on the hard courts, using his powerful ground strokes to outmuscle his opponents from the back of the court. What makes Sinner special is that he has the same speed of shot from both wings – something that has become noticeable from his peers. Can the number 10 seed secure his spot in the third round when he takes on Laslo Djere?

Laslo Djere won his first-round match against Soonwoo Kwon at long odds. The Serbian World No. 52 had been on a terrible run of form coming to Indian Wells. Djere had lost his last five matches and had not won a tour-level match since stepping outside Australia. And when he dropped the first set against the South Korean on Thursday, he appeared well on course to another early exit. But surprisingly, he shifted through the gears and bossed the next two sets where he converted four breaks of serve.

As ridiculous as it sounds, Laslo Djere owns a 2-0 head-to-head record against Jannik Sinner. But it doesn’t surprise one bit when you factor the surface in their previous meetings. Djere won both matches on his beloved clay courts and just before the Italian’s game became fully functional. At Indian Wells, the table will most certainly turn in this matchup and Sinner should overpower the Serbian.
