Montpellier Open 2022: Alexander Zverev vs. Alexander Bublik Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Montpellier Open as Alexander Zverev takes on Alexander Bublik in the final on Sunday, February 6th, 2022.

Alexander Zverev continues to have very little sympathy towards the chasing pack at the 2022 Montpellier Open. The German is a man on a mission this week with his sights set firmly on clinching his 20th tour-level title. Will he deny Alexander Bublik a maiden ATP title in the process?

Alexander Zverev continued his dominance at the Montpellier Open on Saturday. The German top seed entered this tournament as a wild card following his below par showing at the Australian Open. And he seems to have ticked off that defeat to Denis Shapovalov Down Under as a one-off. Zverev completed a 6-1 6-3 dissection of Sweden’s Mikael Ymer in the second semifinal of the day, taking only 53 minutes  to reach his first final of the year.

Alexander Bublik, for his part, looked in stellar form against Filip Krajinovic in the first semifinal at the Montpellier Open. The enigmatic Kazakh produced a splendid display of excellent serving and heavy-hitting from the baseline to defeat the Serbian number five seed. Bublik did not give Krajinovic as little as a sniff on his monstrous serve. He did not face a single break point in the entire 64-minute contest and won a staggering 29 out of 31 first-serve points. In turn, Bublik broke Krajinovic three times from 11 opporutnities. Will he lay his hands on his first ATP title at the fifth time of asking when he takes on Alexander Zverev?

Alexander Bublik owns a 1-0 head-to-head record against Alexander Zverev. Bublik’s win came on the indoor hard courts of Rotterdam last year where he stunned Zverev right of the gate. There is no denying that the showy Kazakh is more at home when playing under the roof. His serve has a different feel as is his power-packed forehand. He is long overdue for one title-winning run after four previous final losses. Zverev is far too polished in his game, but this match looks like it could ebb and flow in both directions. Right now, I’ll take the upset in this one.
