Montpellier Open 2022: Alexander Zverev vs. Adrian Mannarino Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Montpellier Open as Alexander Zverev takes on Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinal on Friday, February 4th, 2022.

Alexander Zverev is looking to win his first title of the season at the 2022 Montpellier Open. After his disappointment at the Australian Open, the German top seed made a positive start to his campaign this week with victory over Mackenzie McDonald. Now, a home favorite waits in the last eight in the form of Adrian Mannarino.

Alexander Zverev defeated Mackenzie McDonald 6-2 7-6 at the 2022 Montpellier Open to pick up his sixth victory of the season. Zverev admitted, he could not wait to get back on the court after losing in the fourth round of the Australian Open to Denis Shapovalov in straight sets. And he was in full throttle after he established a commanding set and a break lead against McDonald. But the American pegged him back and forced a second-set tiebreak in which he raced to a 4-2 lead. But Zverev’s pure hitting forced McDonald into untimely errors and the German World No. 3 escaped in two sets. Zverev is now eyeing to reach a first semifinal in these parts since he won the title in 2017 when he takes on Adrian Mannarino.

Adrian Mannarino sliced through the defenses of the struggling David Goffin to win 6-4 6-2 in an hour and half. Mannarino’s flat hitting and pacey first-serve nullified the Belgian’s biggest weapon – the return. And in the process he ended Goffin’s title defense at the Montpellier Open. The unseeded Frenchman won 70% first-serve points and broke serve five times from nine attempts to set up an enticing quarterfinal against Alexander Zverev.

Alexander Zverev leads Adrian Mannarino 6-0 in their head-to-head. As one-sided as the head-to-head suggests, Zverev has been pushed to the absolute limits is some of those battles. Mannarino hit a purple patch at the Australian Open, beating the likes of Hurbert Hurkacz and Aslan Karatsev before playing a colossal tiebreak set against Nadal in the Round of 16. The Frenchman looks good value to push the German the distance once more, but Zverev looks a safe bet to progress.
