TennisSection previews the 2022 Australian Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Sebastian Baez in the Round of 64 on Thursday, January 20th, 2021.
Will Stefanos Tsitsipas get the win? Will Sebastian Baez pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have the world no. 4 aiming to continue his campaign down under. Who will move on to the Round of 32 at the 2022 Australian Open?
Stefanos Tsitsipas got a great win over Ymer, taking him out in 3 convincing sets to progress to the third round coming up against Sebastian Baez. In order to beat him, he will just have to keep playing at a consistent level, serving big and setting up the forehand, trying to stay in the rallies. He’s been struggling as of late, but I most definitely expect him to regroup in some sense, and most definitely get past the likes of Baez with relative ease. Let’s see if the Greek can continue to storm through his quarter of the draw at the 2022 Australian Open.
Sebastian Baez has quite the challenge ahead of him as he aims to take on World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas. If he wants to take down Tsitsipas, he will have to hope he’s off his game. He really has no other way to defeat him, Tsitsipas has had some excellent results in Australia in the past, and he has much more experience and simply plays at a much higher level. This match will likely just serve as a catalyst in helping Tsitsipas find his groove once again and return to playing at the highest level. Let’s see if he can make something happen here at the 2022 Australian Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Sebastian Baez have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s just too hard of a matchup for Baez, considering the level of Tsitsipas. He had to get through a brutal 5-setter to set up this even tougher meeting. He took down quite a good player, but his opponent was nowhere near the level of Tsitsipas, so I definitely don’t expect Baez to be able to do much as he attempts to resist the advance of Tsitsipas who aims to have a deep run at the 2022 Australian Open to get his form back.
