Having dropped the first set 6-3, Bublik raised his level and pinched a crucial second set tiebreak to level things up. Bublik protected his serve in the next two sets where he held all his service games. Escobedo, meanwhile, began to misfire and his game malfunctioned to cede the next two sets relatively easily. Bublik will now aim to keep his 100% winning record over Gael Monfils when they square off in an intriguing second-round match here at the Australian Open.
