TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Iga Swiatek takes on Fiona Ferro in the Round of 64 on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021.
Will Fiona Ferro get a huge win under her belt beating a top 10 player early on here at the 2021 US Open? Will Iga Swiatek finally get some momentum going again after having issues in her last 2 Grand Slams? If Iga is at her best, she should surely win, but can Fiona be able to cause a huge upset and make her way to the Round of 32 of the 2021 US Open?
Fiona Ferro cruised through her opening match, beating the Japanese Nao Hibino in straight sets 6-1/6-4. Ferro had no issues throughout the match as the quality of her opponent was nothing to be afraid of. Fiona is definitely a tough player at her best, but she is also an inconsistent one, having amazing weeks sometimes, and then highly-sub-par weeks the next week. Fiona knows she is going to have to come out at her best if she is going to be able to cause the upset against the always improving Iga Swiatek, but what weapons will be able to get her to cause the upset here at the 2021 US Open?
Iga Swiatek dominated in her first match, beating Jamie Loeb in straight sets 6-3/6-4. Iga was amazing in all aspects of her game. Winning 80% of first serves and 80% of second serves. Iga only lost 9 points on her serve the whole match and she did not let her opponent see one break point. Iga will be very determined here at the 2021 US Open to get back to her best as she knows she should have really gone further in her last 2 Grand Slams but injuries prevented her. Iga Swiatek will want to cruise through Fiona Ferro and get herself further into the tournament here at the 2021 US Open.
Iga Swiatek and Fiona Ferro have met 1 time before, with Iga Swiatek leading the head to head 1-0. They met at the beginning of the year at the Australian Open, in similar conditions to these, where Swiatek won in straight sets 6-4/6-3. Since then, Swiatek has continued to improve and she will definitely know shes even better than she was then. Fiona, on the other hand, has not really done much noteworthy, and she does not have any specific weapons in her game which will allow her to cause the upset in my opinion. I expect another straight forward win for the Pole as she makes her way to the Round of 32 of the 2021 US Open.
