Melbourne Open 2022: Rafael Nadal vs. Tallon Griekspoor Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Melbourne Open as Rafael Nadal takes on Tallon Griekspoor in the Quarter-Finals on Friday, January 7th, 2021.

Will Tallon Griekspoor shock us all and get back to back upsets, but with this one being the biggest upset of his career? Will Rafael Nadal continue improving on the level he showed in his first match back in a fair few months? This will be a good match to see how Nadal plays in back to back days. Will the Spaniard make easy work of this match here at the 2022 Melbourne Open?

Tallon Griekspoor played a good match against the always tough and local Aussie, Alexei Popyrin, beating him in 3 sets. The match was tight all throughout and the difference in this match was really the first serve win percentage. At a fair few key moments, Alexei double faulted and this gave Tallon some games which he could’ve easily avoided losing. Tallon usually plays on the challenger tour and he will know that if he is to get anything going against Rafael Nadal here at the 2022 Melbourne Open, he will have to play the match of his life, and that will most likely not be enough.

Rafael Nadal played a great match in his first ATP Tour match since the Washington Open, beating the experienced Ricardas Berankis in straight sets 6-2/7-5. In the first set, Nadal was untouchable, playing some amazing tennis. However, in the second set, we saw a bit of rust at times from the Spaniard as he was broken twice. But as we all know, Nadal is the player with the best statistics of breaking back after losing serve in ATP history, so he was quick to get back on track and win in 2 sets. Will Nadal improve on his level as he now meets Tallon Griekspoor at the 2022 Melbourne Open.

Rafael Nadal and Tallon Griekspoor have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Tallon played well here at the 2022 Melbourne Open, but even if he comes out here playing at his absolute best, he is nowhere near even 50% of Nadal’s best tennis. Rafa showed some great tennis in his first match back, and he will only improve going forwards as he gets a feel for the court. I expect an easy win for the Spaniard as he makes his way to the Semi-Finals.
