Canada and Germany will collide in a battle of tennis heavyweights here at the 2022 ATP Cup. Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime who are two of the most explosive and talented players on the ATP Tour will do battle at the #1 Singles spot. Both teams are desperate for the victory here to keep their hopes alive after splitting their first two ties. Who will get the win here?
Alexander Zverev is ranked #4 on the ATP Tour and is one of the best players in the world. The big German seems highly motivated this season and many will wonder if this is finally the year that he finally breaks through and wins that elusive first Grand Slam title. He certainly has the game to do so, and he will have his first crack at a slam at the Australiam Open in a couple weeks. Zverev has been dominant so far here at the 2022 ATP Cup, winning both of his matches and he is the big favorite to get yet another win over Felix Auger-Aliassime and go unbeaten in his group here in Sydney.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked 11th on the ATP Tour and has long been considered one of the most talented young players on the circuit. He has finally started to fulfill that promise and compete at the big events, and even recently broke into the top 10 for the first time last year. The Canadian star has the tools to beat anyone on a good day, and if things are clicking for him he is more than capable than causing the upset here over Alexander Zverev. However, he has traditionally struggled to produce consistent performances at this level and he enters this match as the underdog here at the 2022 ATP Cup.
This will be the sixth meeting between the two players with Alexander Zverev leading the head to head 4-1. The German has dominated the series, but Felix Auger-Aliassime will take heart in the fact that his only victory came last year at Wimbledon, giving him the belief that he can compete at these larger events. Both men have looked to be in good form so far here at the 2022 ATP Cup but we are going with Zverev to get the win here. He is mentally stronger and has looked outstanding over the past few years. The German will be a serious contender at the Australian Open and I expect him to continue his great form so far here in Sydney.
