TennisSection previews the 2021 Los Cabos Open as Cameron Norrie (1) meets Brandon Nakashima in the Final on Saturday July 24th, 2021.
Cameron Norrie has been one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour this season, but is still seeking his first career title. This will be his fourth Final of the year, and he must be thinking that the stars are finally aligning for him. The only obstacle in his path is the young American Brandon Nakashima, a first time Finalist on the Tour. Can Norrie finally get the win and claim his first title?
Cameron Norrie is currently ranked #30 on the ATP Tour and is the top seed here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open. The Brit has been outstanding so far this year, reaching 3 Finals before this event and will be desperately seeking his first title. While he came up against higher-ranked opposition in the other Finals, he will be thinking that this is finally his big opportunity, as he is coming up against the inexperienced Brandon Nakashima. Norrie crushed Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-1 in a stunning display of tennis, and must be considered the overwhelming favorite here. If he can get over the mental hurdle of losing those other Finals, he has an outstanding chance of winning here.
Brandon Nakashima is unseeded here at the Los Cabos Open and is currently ranked over 100 spots below his opponent Cameron Norrie, at #134 on the ATP Tour. The promising young American has always displayed flashes of his potential, but he is breaking out here in Los Cabos and has shocked the field by reaching his first ATP Final. He displayed maturity beyond his years to upset the second seeded John Isner in the Semi-Finals in a result that no-one would have expected. Nakashima was outstanding in that match, winning over 80% of points on serve and winning 40% of points on return, an astoundingly high percentage against one of the best servers in the world. While he is the underdog here, anything goes in a Final and he will be backing himself here.
This will be the second meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour with Brandon Nakashima leading the head to head 1-0. He defeated Cameron Norrie last year in Delray Beach 7-5, 6-2. Since then, Norrie has really shot up the rankings while the American has remained a bit stagnant. I think that this match will be a lot closer that most people think, but I am still going to give the edge to Cameron Norrie. Experience is a big factor when it comes to Finals, and he has a lot of it. Brandon Nakashima is breaking out right in front of our eyes, but he will have to wait a while for his first title. Cameron Norrie will win here and become the 2021 Los Cabos Open champion.
