Davis Cup Finals 2021: Jannik Sinner vs. John Isner Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Davis Cup Finals as Jannik Sinner takes on John Isner in the Round Robin stage on Friday, November 26th, 2021.

Will John Isner be able to use his experience to get a very solid win under his belt for Team USA? Will Jannik Sinner show us why he is such a solid player and a top 10 player at just 20 years old? Both players can play strong tennis in these indoor hard court conditions, but only one will get the win for their country here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals. Who will it be?

John Isner had a solid 2021 season, winning 23 matches, only losing 11, and winning his 16th career title along the way. John is a very experienced player with huge assets such as his serve and forehand. John will know that Team USA has fought very hard in the qualifiers to get here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, and he will know that if his serve is firing, he can have a very strong chance of getting an upset win under his belt against Jannik Sinner. However, if his serve does not fire as precisely and fast as it can, the 36-year-olds movement is not at its best compared to the young Italian here.

Jannik Sinner has shown us all that he is just an incredible player who has got so much potential. At just 20 years old, Jannik has made the top 10 twice this year, and he has won 4 titles this year, winning 46 matches on the ATP Tour. Jannik is continuing to improve, showing us that he is not afraid of the big moment, and most recently, showed us exactly that when he came in to replace Matteo Berrettini at the ATP Finals a couple weeks ago. Jannik has a huge serve, forehand, and backhand. He does not have one specific shot which gets the job done, but his consistency all round is what is great about him, and what he will need as he meets John Isner at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals.

Jannik Sinner and John Isner have met 1 time before, with John Isner leading the head to head 1-0. They met in Cincinnati this year where John won in 3 tight sets. Although John won that match, you have to take into account the fact that Jannik had just won a title so he was not as fresh as he could be, and John was being supported by the crowd heavily in the US, allowing him to have more confidence and momentum on the court. In this encounter, I think that Jannik has the edge. Just a month or so ago, Jannik destroyed a very similar player to Isner, Reilly Opelka, and I expect for him to come out here and get another straight sets win under his belt in his home country.
