Next Gen ATP Finals 2021: Carlos Alcaraz vs. Sebastian Korda Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Next Gen ATP Finals as Carlos Alcaraz takes on Sebastian Korda in the final on Saturday, November 13th, 2021.

Will Carlos Alcaraz break new ground Milan? Or is Sebastian Korda’s name written all over the Next Gen ATP Finals crown? We preview a blockbuster title match for the 21-and-under club between two of the finest talents in men’s tennis. Who will be the fourth champion at the season-ending finale?

To put it mildly, Carlos Alcaraz has been a breath of fresh air in men’s tennis. Still only 18, but with bags of potential. It is so easy to join the bandwagon and tip your hat on the Spaniard as the next big thing. There have been so many pretenders to Rafael Nadal’s throne, but this power-hitting young gun from Murcia looks like the real deal. Alcaraz has drawn glowing praise from Nadal himself, Andy Murray, and his fellow contemporaries to the type of talent he has showcased on the senior tour. Now he will have a massive opportunity to lay his hands on the Next Gen ATP Finals title if he can overcome his first acid test at the tournament in the shape of Sebastian Korda.

Sebastian Korda, like Carlos Alcaraz, has been a revelation in 2021. Having captured his maiden ATP title this year on the clay courts of Parma, he has put together the best season of his young career. All previous winners of the Next Gen ATP Finals have gone to achieve big things. Aside from Hyeon Chung, whose breakthrough has been curtailed by a series of debilitating injuries, the likes of Tsitsipas and Sinner are now entrenched inside the Top 10. Chung though, did crack the Top 20 and scored a surprise win over Novak Djokovic at the 2018 Australian Open – so it didn’t all go south for the South Korean.

This will be the first official meeting between Carlos Alcaraz and Sebastian Korda. And we are hoping this will be the first of many duels between the pair. The Next Gen ATP Finals does not award ranking points to participants, and that could be sort of bad news for Korda. The American is ranked 39th in the world and could fall short in his bid to secure a seeding spot at next year’s Australian Open. Nonetheless, he will be a name most of the top players will be keen to avoid in the first round. Korda has been pushed to five sets in two matches this week and he has had some patchy moments. On current form, it would take a near-perfect performance to defeat Alcaraz, and I am not entirely convinced Korda will be consistent enough over three sets.
