Will Carsper Ruud get the win? Will Marcos Giron pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have a top player taking on a surprise opponent who just pulled off a great win. Who will move on to the quarterfinals at the 2021 Paris Masters?
Casper Ruud has been playing some great tennis in the last few months, being able to transition his game from just clay courts to be able to play on hard as well. He’s looking in good shape to be able to qualify for the year end championships. He has a great shot here to move on to the next round coming up against Marcos Giron, who got a great win over Schwartzman, but to take on Ruud right after will be too much for him. The courts are playing a little slower this year, which gives Ruud even more of an advantage, he’ll just be able to dominate most of the rallies from the back of the court, allowing him to easily round up points as he aims to book his spot in the quarterfinals at the 2021 Paris Masters.
Marcos Giron shocked Schwartzman in two tiebreakers to set up an even tougher meeting with Casper Ruud. In order to take him out, he will have to try and play aggressive, Ruud has great defense, but if Giron can really hit through the ball and redirect it well, there won’t be much that Ruud can do. That is a very daunting task however, seeing as Ruud is incredibly consistent and has the ability to play aggressively himself. I expect Ruud to continue to show his top level as he attempts to book his place in the final eight here at the 2021 Paris masters.
Casper Ruud and Marcos Giron have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Giron has a pretty well-rounded game, with solid groundstrokes and the ability to pull off some magic on occasion. Ruud however can play that game on a whole other level. He’s a bigger guy, allowing him to serve much bigger and hit bigger off the ground as well. I expect Ruud to simply overpower him from the back of the court and not allow Giron to make inroads in the points. Let’s see if Ruud can continue his excellent run of form to take down Giron and move on to the quarterfinals as the 2021 Paris Masters.
