TennisSection previews the 2021 Vienna Open as Alexander Zverev takes on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Quarter-Finals on Friday, October 29th, 2021.
Will Felix Auger-Aliassime get a very big win for his confidence and momentum in the indoor hard court season? Will Alexander Zverev be able to get himself one step closer to another title in 2021? Both players are great in these conditions, but only one will make their way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Vienna Open. Who will it be?
Felix Auger-Aliassime has to fight back from a set down against the very in form, 2021 Indian Wells Champion, Cameron Norrie. Felix won in 3 sets 2-6/7-6/6-4. Felix was not playing at his best for the first half of the match, btu he was able to keep things close enough to get that tiebreak in the second set, and once he got that under his belt, he felt free to hit his shots. Felix will know that he is still not where he needs to be compared to his first half of the year form. However, he will aim to give it his best as he now meets an always tough opponent in Alexander Zverev here at the 2021 Vienna Open.
Alexander Zverev also had to fight his way through a 3 set match in the Round of 16, beating the highly-skilled and fast, Alex de Minaur, 6-2/3-6/6-2. Alexander has shown a bit of struggle on his serve at times in his matches this week, but he has also shown a quick turnaround to fix it when this has happened. Alexander will be looking at the draw knowing that he is now the shoe-in/favourite for the title, and he will want to get as many points as possible before the end of the year to rise up the rankings. However, he needs to ensure top form at the 2021 Vienna Open as the draw is getting tougher, especially as he now meets Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime have met 4 times before, with Alexander Zverev leading the head to head 3-1. They last met at Wimbledon this year where Felix won in 5 sets. Although Felix won that match, grass does favour him much more than Zverev. In indoor hard court conditions, Alexander gets way more out of his game than the Canadian, using his huge serve to speed through the court, and his movement to ensure that he minimises the potential for winners from opponents. I still think this match will be tight because Felix is a fighter, but look for Alexander Zverev to make his way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Vienna Open.
