TennisSection previews the 2021 Astana Open as Alexander Bublik (2) takes on Carlos Taberner in the quarterfinals on Friday, September 24th, 2021.
Will Alexander Bublik move on? Will Carlos Taberner cause the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we will see if the number two seed can show his best level and get a nice win under his belt. Who will move on to the semifinals at the 2021 Astana Open?
Alexander Bublik has been playing some pretty solid tennis, and I expect him to keep up his excellent serving and consistent ball striking. While he is for sure an ecstatic player, and loves to hit hard and go for hot shots, he can still hit a consistent ball and it’s hard to outhit him from the baseline, especially since he can amp up that aggression and hit some really world class balls. Carlos Taberner has a tough one ahead of him, being much lower ranked and less experienced, it will be a tough one for him. In order to beat Bublik, he will likely have to get some help from him, hoping that Bublik makes a lot of errors and doesn’t serve at too high of a percentage, if that happens, then Taberner can jump on some opportunities.
Carlos Taberner got through with a nice win, and now he’s got a really tough test ahead of him in Alexander Bublik. Bublik is the heavy favorite, and it’s very likely that he’ll get the match out of the way relatively easily and head through to the next round at the 2021 Astana Open. Taberner will have to play some mainline tennis, attacking serves and really trying to spin the ball to Bublik’s backhand, hoping for some opportunities where he can jump on short balls and close in. Of course, when playing someone as good as Bublik, it is for sure much easier said than done. Still, it’ll be interesting to see what he can do to challenge the number two seed.
Alexander Bublik and Carlos Taberner have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. They’ve never met before, and I suspect the matchup will heavily favor Bublik, where he can use his booming groundstrokes and serve to blow Taberner off the court, rallying from the back of the court with good topspin and flat balls, really being able to accelerate for offensive or defensive purposes when it counts. Bublik is the slight favorite overall to take the title now that Karatsev is out, let’s see if he can bring his best level and show that he’s got the stuff to take the title at the 2021 Astana Open.
