TennisSection previews the 2021 Astana Open as Alexander Bublik (2) takes on Miomir Kecmanovic in the Round of 16 on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021.
Will Alexander Bublik start to show some consistency? Will Miomir Kecmanovic cause the upset? This could for sure be an interesting matchup, where we have two pretty young players who play some great tennis when they’re at their peaks. Who will move on to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Astana Open?
Alexander Bublik has been rather inconsistent this year, using his huge and unique game to win many matches despite that inconsistency. In order to do well, he will have to serve well, and while his serve at it’s best I would argue is in the top 3 serves on the ATP Tour. The problem remains that, well, it’s rather inconsistent, and he can be prone to many breakdowns on that end, still, he has great groundstrokes and is for sure a very talented player in regards to touch and his natural net play. While he is the favorite to win the match, Kecmanovic is no slouch, and he won’t win easily if he carries on his poor momentum from previous tournaments. Let’s see if he can turn it all around and progress to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Astana Open.
Miomir Kecmanovic got a solid win over Fernando Verdasco, taking him out rather swiftly. His break point conversion rate, though, despite the seemingly easy win, was sitting rather low all the way down at 4/14. To take someone out like Alexander Bublik, he will for sure need to return very well, and as Bublik’s serves can go astray sometimes, Kecmanovic will have to look to be aggressive on certain second serves and attempt to set up those points in his favor. While I do definitely think he has a chance, and considering the fact that Bublik is for sure very inconsistent these days, I don’t put him as the favorite to win the match, and I think he will struggle to win a set, as Kecmanovic has also had some strange results this year, bowing out early in many tournaments, let’s see if he can reverse that trend and take out the number two seed to move on to the next round at the 2021 Astana Open.
Alexander Bublik and Miomir Kecmanovic have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s a pretty cool match-up, Kecmanovic has a well-rounded game, and can challenge many players when it’s his day. In order to take out Bublik today, he will need to be aggressive on second serves, if he can apply the pressure in those return games, then I like his chances. It will be hard however, and almost impossible to break him if Bublik is serving well, let’s see if these two will give us a good match, but Bublik is looking pretty good to move on to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Astana Open.
