TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Diego Schwartzman takes on Alex Molcan in the Round of 32 on Friday, September 3rd, 2021.
Will Diego Schwartzman go through? Will Alex Molcan pull off the upset? This match will be an interesting one, where we have a very much in-form Schwartzman looking to get through, and he’s most certainly a great dark horse pick this year in New York. Who will move on to the Round of 16 at the 2021 US Open?
Diego Scwhartzman got a great win over Anderson in his second round match, taking him out in straight sets in what could have for sure been a very tough match. He neutralized the power of Anderson beautifully on the very quick court of Ashe, returning beautifully and rarely failing to convert on any opportunities he earned. He’s playing some real solid tennis at the moment, playing some great heavy balls and finishing the point whenever the opportunity presents itself. He has a fantastic opportunity to make the fourth round here coming up against qualifier Alex Molcan, who barely got through in five sets against a very tough opponent. Schwartzman will most likely get a nice, easy win to book himself a place in the fourth round at the 2021 US Open.
Alex Molcan got a fantastic win to set up this meeting vs. Diego Schwartzman, taking out a very much in-form Brandon Nakashima in five sets. Playing the tennis of his life, he absolutely has what it takes to take it to Schwartzman, to defeat him would be a much more hefty task, however. In order to take him out, he will have to return very well, as Schwartzman isa very good returner, he will likely get many opportunities to break and go ahead off that wing. So, Molcan will have to take advantage of Schwartzman’s height, and thus his weak serve, if he is able to take his time and try to change direction off of his serves, particularly his second serves, then he can definitely make some noise, however, it will still be very hard considering the way that Schwartzman is defending, even if Molcan is able to be aggressive off of those returns, let’s see if he’s able to do anything to stop Schwartzman from moving through to the Round of 16 at the 2021 US Open.
Diego Schwartzman and Alex Molcan have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s not too versatile of a match-up, with both players playing in a relatively similar manner, it’s just that Schwartzman is a little more extreme on the scale, as he’s a lot shorter of a player on the ATP Tour and that’s just something that he has to do. It will definitely be interesting to see how Molcan will play this one when he gets second serves, since he was able to defeat Nakashima, we know he’s playing some good tennis, particularly on return as we can see according to the scoreline in that five-setter, particularly in those last two sets what he can do, still, Schwartzman is playing some great tennis, and just due to his freshness and consistency at the moment, I see him getting a nice, solid win to book his spot in the last sixteen at the 2021 US Open.
