TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Taylor Fritz takes on Jenson Brooksby in the Round of 64 on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021.
Who will make their way to the Round of 32 here at the 2021 US Open out of these two American tennis stars? Will it be the up and coming Jenson Brooksby to continue making a name for himself? Will it be the more experienced but still young and talented, Taylor Fritz, to get closer to the second week here at the 2021 US Open?
Jenson Brooksby had to come through a tight opening match against a fellow youngster in Mikael Ymer, beating the Swede in 4 sets 7-5/6-2/5-7/6-3. Jenson has been on fire this summer, getting big wins under his belt, beating the likes of Kevin Anderson, and getting far in many tournaments such as Atlanta, Washington, and Los Cabos. Jenson is definitely finding his best tennis here in North America, and he will want to make the most of the wildcard awarded to him here at the 2021 US Open as he got in the draw. However, he will now meet another American, Taylor Fritz, who is much more experienced than him even though he is not that much older.
Taylor Fritz also came through a 4-set victory in his opening round match against Alex de Minaur, beating the Aussie 7-6/6-2/1-6/6-4. Taylor Fritz will be very happy with this win because not only did he get himself into the Round of 64, but he did it by knocking out a high seed in Alex who is always hard to beat. Taylor was composed on his serve and was holding the majority of his service games easily, allowing him then to play freely on his return games. This tactic was very strong as it worked, and he will be hoping this similar tactic works well again as he now meets a younger American in Jenson Brooksby here at the 2021 US Open.
Taylor Fritz and Jenson Brooksby have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Jenson Brooksby is definitely making a name for himself, having broken into the top 100 in the world recently, so he will know that he can definitely cause some upsets with the momentum and confidence he has gained. However, he meets a much more experienced opponent in Taylor Fritz. Fritz is underrated, the American has a solid serve and he is able to hit very high kicking serves which limit opponents returns. Fritz will want to get this tactic as he used against de Minaur against Brooksby, and I am sure it will work in the end, but do expect some pushback at moments from the younger American here at the 2021 US Open.
