TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Bianca Andreescu takes on Viktorija Golubic in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021.
Will Viktorija Golubic get a big win under her belt as we know she can do and bounce back from the tough month she has had? Will Bianca Andreescu finally get some momentum going after struggling with injuries, consistency, and form for the better part of the last year? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 US Open. Who will it be?
Viktorija Golubic has been struggling over the last month on the North American hard courts, losing in the first or second round of all tournaments. However, coming into the 2021 US Open, the Swiss will be aiming to find the form which she showed at Wimbledon nearly 2 months ago, reaching the Quarter-Finals. Viktorija has a very strong game, being able to rally with the best from the baseline. However, Viktorija Golubic’s problem is that sometimes she is too keen to finish the point early and she will go for too much. She will need to work on that, especially as she aims to cause the upset against the determined Bianca Andreescu.
Bianca Andreescu has had 2 of the toughest years of her life due to injuries and inconsistency issues. Bianca is an amazing talent, and I am sure everyone remembers her amazing North American run in 2019 where she won the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open. However, since then she has not been able to get anywhere near the level she knows she can play at due to injuries. Bianca has been struggling a lot over the last month as well, losing in the opening or second round of tournaments, but I am sure she will bring her level up slightly and give it more as she now aims to perhaps find some momentum and luck against Viktorija Golubic here at the 2021 US Open.
Bianca Andreescu and Viktorija Golubic have never met before, with this being their first ever career meeting. Viktorija has definitely had a much more successful win this year, winning 44 matches this year, whilst Bianca has only won 13. However, with the last month of tournaments it seems they might be in a similar position in terms of form at the moment. I do expect a tight match here as they are both aiming to find their feet and form here at the 2021 US Open. However, I think that because we are at the US Open, and Bianca has won this tournament before, she will bring that extra level when it comes down to the wire and she makes her way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 US Open.
